Overview of SFERRA
Oh, the difference hand-crafted quality makes. Founded in 1891 in Italy by Gennaro Sferra, the brand got its start after the craftsman began selling its signature lace and linens. Shaped into elegant collars and cuffs, the fine fabric helped mold SFERRA into what it is today.
After moving from fashion to table linens, Gennaro brought his two sons on board and taught them his trade, knowledge, and craftsmanship. Throughout the years, the brand evolved, but it always maintained a reputation for selling the finest materials which it’s still known for today.
The majority of SFERRA’s collection is made in Italy, but some items are handcrafted in the USA and Portugal as well. Sourcing only the best materials and masters, the brand is known for its impeccable detailing, finishing hemstitch, and large size.
The in-flight bedding of choice for Pope John Paul II, the brand’s table linens were used during Reagan’s presidency, and its bedding can be found in luxury hotels around the world today.
Since you’ve got a grasp on its beginnings, this SFERRA review will skip right along. Up next are the highlights.

SFERRA Reviews: What Do Customers Think?
The brand’s platinum reputation isn’t one that we can argue with, but still, if you’re going to spend a pretty penny on anything, it’s highly suggested that you do your research beforehand. That’s probably why you’re here reading this SFERRA review.
In this section, you’ll find a handful of ratings and comments from around the web to make sure you know exactly what you’re getting from this brand. Our first stop for feedback was Bloomingdales. The luxury retailer sells a range of SFERRA bedding, but we took a closer look at the Celeste Sheets.
The sheets had an overall score of 4.5/5 stars from 77 shoppers. Here’s how that breaks down:
- 5 stars: 82%
- 4 stars: 7%
- 3 stars: 4%
- 2 stars: 5%
- 1 star: 2%
Of the sheet’s feel, one SFERRA review read, “This is a top quality sheet with that crisp, old fashioned feel that gets smoother and softer with every wash. Love it. However like all percale weaves, it does need ironing to look its best. But worth it IMHO.”
The traditional feeling of the Celeste Sheets is a reason that people gravitate towards them along with their natural cooling properties. Even though they’re soft, they’re also crisp, and that’s something many look for in sheets—not everyone wants jersey softness.
While nosing around online, it became clear that pretty much all reviews available were about the SFERRA sheets or pillowcases. We stuck with sheets seeing that they’re what this company is known for, and headed over to Amazon to look into the Grande Hotel Sheet Set.
Awarded a 4.3/5 star rating from 27 shoppers, you’ll find the snapshot of that score below if you’re interested to see how it breaks down.
- 5 stars: 68%
- 4 stars: 10%
- 3 stars: 9%
- 2 stars: 8%
- 1 star: 6%
Overall, the comments section was full of insights into the delightful comfort and luxury feel of the sheets. One SFERRA review read:
“Have had these sheets for several months and am enjoying the crisp feel. They are light and are perfect summer sheets. The sheets are an ample size and easily fit my mattress and memory foam topper. If you fold these sheets immediately from the dryer, you can get away with not ironing them.”
The word “crisp” is common among SFERRA reviews, and if you’ve ever found yourself having the best sleep of your life tucked in pristine hotel bedding, then that’s something you may treasure in the Grande Hotel Set. Another noteworthy excerpt from the above comment is the mention of “ample size.”
Size is what sets this brand’s sheets apart from other comparable bedding, allowing you enough room to tuck and fold your sheets beautifully. While searching for feedback, we found another SFERRA review on a blog called Remodelista that agreed.
After showing a photo of the perfect bed tuck for the Giza 45 Percale Sheets, we learned that making square corners with sheets is something that not all sheets allow for. SFERRA’s do. In addition to being the right size, the review went into detail about the brand’s truly luxurious Egyptian cotton. It read:
“According to The Truth About Thread Count, it “is the most highly graded cotton fiber of the Egyptian cottons. It is the longest, thinnest, strongest of all the ‘Giza’ grade cottons.” Giza 45 cotton is also more uniform with fewer irregularities, resulting in a smoother finish.”
The longer the cotton thread, the more luxurious the sheets, but that’s not all that the SFERRA review on Remodelista revealed about what makes this brand so coveted. It continued:
“The hemstitch detailing was a nice touch, but what really impressed was the superior craftsmanship of the sheets, most notable in the finish around the top border, which features exquisitely stitched, diagonal seams. By comparison, the finish on my other sheets (by a mid-priced brand) looks rough and sloppy.”
Showing a photographic comparison between the mid-priced sheets and SFERRA’s, the difference is night and day. It looks like it really does pay to choose quality.
With very positive feedback across sources, there was little in regard to the negative. Nothing stood out as common aside from a few customers’ disappointment in the lack of softness in select SFERRA sheets. But with that said, not all of them are made to be supremely soft.
Knowing your stuff when it comes to buying luxury sheets is important, and to find one that’s perfect for you, pay attention to the weave. Sateen or modal tend to be softer, but others can give a crisper feel. Luxury doesn’t always mean supremely soft but it does mean some of the highest-quality materials and craftsmanship on this planet.
