Overview of Frette

Frette Review

Frette was founded in France in 1860 by Alexandre Payre, Charles Chaboud, and Jean Baptiste Edmond Frette. The company soon moved their operations to Italy, where it’s been making strong sales and also sourcing their raw materials.

Since their launch, the respected brand has expanded their product line to include bath products like towels, bath mats, and bathrobes. They also sell personal items like pajamas and loungewear, and make homeware such as candles and mattresses.

Frette opened their own textile factories near Monza, where skilled craftspeople created their fine linens by hand. The company remains headquartered in Monza and many of their products are still crafted in Italy, while some are now made in Portugal or Turkey.

Establishing a reputation of quality by using fine materials and innovative processes to give their fabrics exceptionally plush finishes, Frette soon became synonymous with European luxury.

The company was commissioned to provide linens for the Italian royal family and all of Italy’s embassies, a tradition that continues to this day. This Frette review has found that they’ve been the brand of choice for royal families, airlines, and upscale hotels over the decades

Their linens can be found at the Plaza Hotel in New York, the Savoy in London, at Ritz-Carlton, and St. Regis hotels across the globe. They also supply the linens for Bombardier aircrafts, dressed the tables on the Titanic, and have even provided fabrics for St. Peter’s Basilica!

The brand opened their first retail store in Milan shortly after opening their factories, and have since expanded their retail presence into more than 15 countries. The brand was also at the forefront of catalog sales in Europe, using mail order shopping to connect with homeowners and businesses across the continent.

Over the last century, Frette has endured the many changes of the home, hospitality, and fashion industries, and still maintain their original retail store on Via Manzoni in Milan.

So, without further ado, let’s begin our Frette review by looking at the highlights of buying from the brand!

Who Is Frette For?

Frette Review

Throughout their 160-year history, Frette has made sheets, duvets and towels for the finest houses, dining rooms, and hotels in the world – and it shows! This classic Italian brand is for customers with refined tastes who want to invest in classic, formal bed and bath linens that will last for years

What truly sets Frette apart is their enduring reputation for manufacturing durable linens that retain their luxurious feel. They achieve this by making their sheets and duvet covers from 100% cotton, which is a strong and natural fiber.

They’ve honed a number of proprietary techniques that ensure they’re creating sheets that adhere to their Three F system of quality:

  1. Fiber: Frette makes their sheets of high-end cotton with long fibers, meaning the thread in their sheets is smoother and stronger. They also use high thread counts to make their sateens lush and durable
  2. Finish: All of Frette’s sheets undergo a patented finishing process to encourage the smoothest, softest texture from their fabrics and increase durability
  3. Feel: Frette’s textiles are made using a variety of different weaving and manufacturing techniques. This means they offer a multitude of fabric choices that will suit every sleeper, from more breathable blends in crisp finishes to those warm and cozy high thread count sateens

Our Frette review found that all of their products are made in Europe; most of their linens are woven in Italy while some are made in Portugal or Turkey, and are made with the same attention to craftsmanship and detail as a century ago.

Frette delivers a timeless quality with equally timeless style. The brand’s products have a classic, simple look which will appeal to people with minimalist tastes. There are no loud colors or obvious logos here.

Many of Frette’s sheet sets, shams, and pillow cases are made to coordinate easily with any room. They come in muted neutrals to easily complement your existing color schemes and linens. This brand helped define hotel chic and their classic aesthetics will look elegant whether they end up in a hotel, B&B, private yacht, or simple home bedroom.

Frette Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Frette Review

To get a sense of what customers are saying about this iconic home linen brand, our Frette review consulted several third-party feedback sites and posts from home linen experts.

Generally, Frette customers have complimented the brand on the longevity and comfort of their sheets and towels.

One 5-star Frette review of their Hotel Classic Sheet Set from a Bloomingdale’s shopper says: “We’ve had these sheets for years and they are the best sheets we have ever owned.”

Another Bloomingdale’s customer, who bought the Hotel Classic Sheet Set after sleeping in them at a hotel, loves how their Frette sheets feel: “We first experienced these sheets at the Meadowood Resort in Napa. When it came time to buy new sheets we knew these were the ones to buy. They keep you cool, whilst wrapping you in luxury.”

Because online customer reviews are relatively limited – something fairly common with luxury brands – we turned to expert linen reviewers who know the market inside and out.

A writer from Sleepsherpa.com has reviewed Frette sheets on several occasions. In general, she appreciates that Frette’s sheets have deep pockets, making them easy to put on your bed. She also notices that their sheets are “extremely smooth and crisp.”

About the Frette Doppio Ajour Sheet Set, she says: “These sheets feel fantastic right out of the box and right after the first wash. I expect them to hold up well over time given their construction.”

Another Frette review, this time from Bestsheetsreview.com, appreciates that the brand’s bedsheets have an accurate thread count, resist pilling, and are made of a “strong organic cotton fabric”.

Other Frette review writers have had positive things to say about the visual appeal and fabric of Frette’s products.

The product reviewer at LindsaySilberman.com tested several brands of Frette towels and found that they were “cozy and absorbent.” She also wrote in her Frette review that their percale cotton sheets were “crisp and cool.”

Both sleepsherpa.com and bestsheetsreview.com reviewers noted that their bedsheets often wrinkle when they come out of the dryer.

Frette is also highly praised by interior designers and design media. In two recent New York Magazine surveys of both interior designers and hotel insiders (from designers to owners to employees) about their favorite bed sheets, Frette consistently receives top marks for their quality and feel

They’re also a favorite of Architectural Digest’s visuals director Michael Shome. In New York Magazine, he says: “My absolute favorite sheets are the hotel classic from Frette, which are kind of like the fantasy version of Upper East Side hotel-bed linens. They’re Italian-made in this Egyptian cotton that’s just the softest and butteriest fabric to laze around in. I love the chic and simple double-line embroidery, too.”

All in all, both customers and experts who’ve tried the brand’s upscale bedding and towels were not disappointed. Based on our assessment of Frette reviews, we see that Frette delivers on their promise of beautiful quality, aesthetic value, and comfort.

Is Frette Worth It?

Frette Review

Frette’s luxe linens are popular with hotel chains and homeowners, and have been for the last 160 years. Their long-standing brand seems to have a good reputation in the industry and they have a beautiful selection of products available on their website.

Frette a top-of-the-line product in every way – including their price tag. So, are their products worth it in the end?

Our Frette review can’t say that this brand is accessible to every budget. No matter how good their quality, their cost can still keep everyday homeowners, and smaller establishments like boutique hotels or Airbnbs, from buying their products.

That said, Frette does have a sale section, which is a great way for any buyer to try out a few items in the comfort of their own home before making a larger investment.

For those who are in the market for 5-star luxury, our Frette review understands why the brand is legendary.

Frette has made hotel luxury available to customers around the world and many love bringing this classic, structured look into their home. Their linens have classic color schemes, stunning embroidery, and beautiful, simple detailing that can easily become part of the design of your home or business.

The sheets are also pristinely made. Their thread count is as promised, and are made in a variety of cotton weaves to suit different preferences, like cotton percale for those who like to keep cool, and cotton sateen for sleepers who need something cozy.

Our Frette review has found that this company’s products are generally well liked by linen reviewers, industry insiders, and regular customers. People appreciate the soft, comfortable fabric, the absorbency of their towels, and the durability of their sheets.

Customers have also noticed that these sheets feel even softer after laundering, and appreciate the strength of the 100% cotton fabric. Not only are these sheets exceptional to sleep in, their high quality means they’re also a lasting investment that gets better with time.

If you’re looking to bring the classic, elegant comfort of luxury hospitality into your own home, our Frette review thinks it’s well worth shopping with the brand that helped define the concept.
