About HealthyWage
Fat loss can seem like an unconquerable mountain for some people. However, if you put a few dollars at the top of that mountain, those people may find a path to the summit they had never noticed before. That’s the mindset behind HealthyWage, a weight-loss betting system.
Essentially, you wager with them how much weight you want to lose and how quickly. If you reach your goal then they’ll return your investment and more. Some winners have earned more than $10,000.
According to a study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine in 2018, individuals who participated in incentivized weight loss programs lost an average of 4.9 more pounds (2.2 kg) than those who did not participate in such programs.
In this HealthyWage review, I will give you the information you need to make an informed choice about the service. Keep reading so that you can decide whether or not it’s right for you.
First, let’s dive into some studies about weight loss betting programs, followed by pros and cons, and more.

Studies About Weight Loss Betting Programs
Below, I’ve compiled some studies about weight loss programs incentivized by a financial prize.
- This study, published in JAMA Internal Medicine in 2014, found that financial incentives were effective in promoting weight loss among overweight and obese adults. Participants who were offered financial incentives lost significantly more weight than those who were not offered incentives.
- This study, published in The New England Journal of Medicine in 2009, examined the effectiveness of financial incentives in promoting weight loss among employees at a large US company. The study found that financial incentives were effective in promoting weight loss, with participants who were offered incentives losing significantly more weight than those who were not.
- This study, published in Obesity in 2017, examined the effectiveness of a weight loss program that included financial incentives among employees at a US university. The study found that the program was effective in promoting weight loss, with participants who were offered incentives losing significantly more weight than those who were not.
Pros and Cons
HealthyWage is a popular weight loss program that provides financial incentives for individuals to lose weight. Here are some pros and cons to consider:
Pros
- Financial motivation: HealthyWage provides financial incentives for individuals to lose weight. This can be a powerful motivator for individuals who struggle to lose weight on their own.
- Flexibility: HealthyWage is flexible and allows individuals to choose their own weight loss goals and the timeframe in which they want to achieve them.
- Support: HealthyWage provides a support system for individuals, including access to weight loss coaches and online resources.
- Accountability: By signing up for HealthyWage, individuals are held accountable for their weight loss goals and progress.
Cons
- Cost: HealthyWage requires a fee to participate, which can be a barrier for some individuals.
- Weight loss is not guaranteed: HealthyWage provides financial incentives for weight loss, but there is no guarantee that individuals will lose weight.
- Limited research: While some studies have shown that financial incentives can be effective in promoting weight loss, there is limited research specifically on the effectiveness of HealthyWage.
- Potential for unhealthy behaviors: In some cases, individuals may resort to unhealthy behaviors, such as extreme dieting or overexercising, in order to meet their weight loss goals and earn the financial incentive.
Overall, HealthyWage can be a helpful program for individuals who are motivated by financial incentives and are committed to losing weight in a healthy way.
HealthyWage Review
The purpose of my HealthyWage review is to give you as clear of an idea about the service as possible. As such, I’ll go through how it works, what challenges they offer, and who would benefit from these services.
Though HealthyWage weight loss is the most common program they offer, they’ve recently added steps-based goals to their challenges so users can focus on increasing their physical activity rather than their weight alone.
How Does HealthyWage Work?
The actual HealthyWage protocol is simple to understand. They’re just holding your money until you reach your goal. When that happens, they’ll pay you out.
Broadly, their challenges all follow a similar format. You’ll pay an entry fee (which can be as little as $10), go through a verified weigh-in at the beginning and end of the challenge, then receive your money if you lose at least 6% of your weight.
You can verify your weight by either allowing HealthyWage’s team to monitor your weigh-in through their app or receiving a form that validates your weigh-in at any health professional’s office.
That’s basically how the service works. The challenges the company provides are where the fun kicks in. I’ll cover those in the next section of my HealthyWage review.
What Challenges Does HealthyWage Offer?
HealthyWage‘s challenges can be sorted by four filters:
- Individual
- Team
- Steps
- Weight loss
Individual challenges are fairly obvious; they’re just for you. Team challenges involve multiple people and you can split the winnings evenly among group members who lose their intended weight. If you want, you can compete head-to-head with other teams to see which teams can collectively lose the higher weight percentage.
Step challenges differ from weight loss challenges as you measure steps rather than weight. You’ll need to provide HealthyWage with your step history so they know your current activity level.
HealthyWage offers premade and personalized challenges.
Corporate Challenges
The last challenge type I’ll tell you about in my HealthyWage review is the corporate challenge.
Small companies with less than 500 employees can create their own corporate challenges along the same lines as individual and team challenges.
Larger companies with more than 500 employees need to contact HealthyWage to create the challenges.
Who Is HealthyWage For?
HealthyWage is a good tool to motivate those who need extra juice to change their lifestyle. While some people are motivated to lose fat for intrinsic reasons, others need an external reward to push themselves. These are the people who should consider HealthyWage.
HealthyWage Reviews: What Do Customers Think?
To give you an idea of how customers feel about HealthyWage, I’ve collected a few aggregate user scores from various websites.
- Better Business Bureau: 4.6/5 stars based on more than 50 pieces of customer feedback
- Site Jabber: 4/5 stars based on more than 110 pieces of customer feedback
- Trust Pilot: 3.3/5 stars based on two pieces of customer feedback
Here’s a HealthyWage Reddit review from a user who’s thrilled with the program.
“My husband and I both signed up. I’m paying $50 a month for 12 months to lose 45 (my minimum goal), and will receive $1950 if I make it (a reasonable return, in my opinion). I don’t find it stressful: for me, it helps motivate me sometimes (to put down the cookie or only eat half of my plate at a restaurant, etc.)…I remind myself of that prize at the end. And if you are motivated to lose the weight already, why not get paid to do it?”
The payout was, unsurprisingly, the main feature many HealthyWage reviews praised. The winnings customers reported were quite impressive as this user indicates:
“Outstanding. I will be honest and was worried all the way through this could be a scam but I submitted weigh in on Sunday and by Wednesday night had been paid $1400! You choose the amount you pay, the weight you have to lose and the time you have to do it in – thats a minimum of 6 months so it is a long term commitment rather than a fad diet. Install the app and very simple to follow the instructions. Very impressed with the speed of payout.”
The other aspect that customers loved was the freedom HealthyWage provided them. The program didn’t tell them they had to lose a certain amount of weight or that they had to reach their goals within an undefined period. Users could set these parameters themselves, allowing them to create healthy goals and metrics.
“Healthywage is a great tool to help keep you focused on your health goals. I love the fact that I am not told how much to lose or what time frame that I set my own goals and my own bet. This gave me the opportunity to set realistic weight loss expectations and with doing so I have won two wagers and just signed up for a 3rd! Verification is easy, payments received through paypal in a timely manner too,” wrote one satisfied customer.
HealthyWage vs. DietBet
There are plenty of discussions surrounding HealthyWage and one of its key competitors DietBet. While there’s a healthy amount of nuance to the discussion, I will quickly summarize the differences between them before moving forward in my HealthyWage review.
HealthyWage allows you to personalize your timeframe, desired weight loss, and how much you want to bet. DietBet only gives you two options but has a lower buy-in amount. It also puts you in a community with others so your earnings are based on how well they perform.
In short, HealthyWage is better for individuals and long-term results whereas DietBet is less financially risky and better for short-term fat loss like if you want to shed some fat before an upcoming vacation.
Is HealthyWage Legit?
While digging through HealthyWage reviews from customers I discovered that the company puts a clause in their fine print that allows them to “recalculate the prize based on certain criteria.” They’re not transparent with this information and don’t state this criterion outright. You need to search for it.
Is HealthyWage Worth It?
If you’re looking for ways to earn money quickly then HealthyWage is worthwhile. They’re a decent service if you want to see the scale drop but not necessarily focused on keeping your body weight lower than it previously was.
With that in mind, you may have made it through this HealthyWage review and still see the platform as worthwhile. If so then there’s nothing wrong with signing up for a challenge and earning a cash reward.
HealthyWage Promotions & Discounts
There weren’t any promotions or discounts running when I was writing this HealthyWage review.
