About Melin Hats
For many guys, a cap is more an extension than an accessory, especially for those who do outdoor activities. Headwear is a must for outdoorsmen but they tend to be uncomfortable, a moisture magnet, or look horrible after only a few wears.
Technologically superior, Melin Hats reportedly stands a head above all other caps. Especially popular with sports media, Melin Hats gets regular coverage in outlets like Golf Digest, SurferToday, and Gear Junkie.
Their collaborations with golfer Phil Mickelson and racecar driver Daniel Ricciardo show that people are starting to really take note of this brand. They have almost 36k followers on Facebook and around 170k on Instagram.
In this Melin Hats review, I will take an in-depth look at why people are doffing their hats to these amazing caps. I’ll be sure to check out the brand’s promotions, products, customer testimonials, and more, so stay tuned.
Overview of Melin Hats
What’s in a cap? For Corey Roth and Brian McDonell, the answer is everything. Growing up in Southern California, these guys were into outdoor activities that made them sweat or took them to the water.
They also enjoyed the social life with nightclubs and concerts, but there was always one constant in their lives – wearing caps.
Although they loved hats, they were always disappointed in the lack of attention to detail and/or the cheapness of the brands available. They couldn’t wear the same hat during the day as in the evening because their heads would sweat creating white marks and the water would warp them or simply swallow them up as the caps got saturated and sunk. Dilemmas, dilemmas.
Roth and McDonell spent four years learning about the ancient art of millinery, or hatmaking, and sourcing the best fabric in the world to create a better cap.
Their aim was to find a way to make comfortable, hydrophobic, sweat-resistant headcovers. Not only that, but they wanted to make the hats high-quality and look good, even after a lot of wear.
In 2013, the pair were finally ready to launch the new brand. With attention to detail in the caps, but also in their presentation, they took another page out of the history of hats by sending each cap in its own hatbox. They design the hats in California, source the fabrics from around the world, and manufacture them in China.
All the caps are premium fabrics and construction and come in three collections for different needs like Hydro (water-resistance), Thermal (heat), and Infinite (extra heat and water-resistance).
Before really getting into the details of these exceptional caps in this Melin Hats review, let’s take a look at some of the things that make this brand the best at making comfortable and superior headwear:
Highlights
- Offers high-quality, functional and fashionable caps
- Carries hydrophobic hats that float
- Superior customer service
- Free returns and exchanges
- 2-year warranty
Melin Hats Review
While any cap can protect you from the sun, it won’t always keep you from getting sunstroke, since your head is heating up under the hat. With that in mind, this is Melin Hats’ first piece of awesome, yet simple technology.
With holes in the hats, your head can release heat and breathe. The second is the moisture-wicking properties that keep the sweat from ruining your cap and showing white stains.
Another innovation is the water-resistant materials and floating brim core on their Hydro line. Going forward with my Melin Hats review, I’ll take a deeper look at some of the caps in the best-selling Hydro collection.
Melin Hats A-Game Hydro Review
The Melin Hats A-Game Hydro is a game-changer since it is ideal for any activities done in the sun, rain, or in the water. Versatile, much?
It has a traditional baseball cap shape, with a slight curve to the brim for a modern style. The shape makes them great for men or for women. Like all Melin Hats, it has a snapback fastener to keep things snug and secure. You can put an amazing lid on it for $59.
Melin Hats Trenches Icon Hydro Review
Getting entrenched in a hat that fits a larger head is easy with Melin Hats Trenches Icon Hydro. With the same features as the A-Game Hydro, this cap is ideal for anyone with a larger noggin or a rounder face.
It has a flat visor and a horizontal seam that follows the natural contours of your head. Since it is made to fit your head, that nasty red line across your forehead is history.
As with all the Hydro caps, it comes in a full range of colors from bold to neutral. Get one (or three, I won’t judge) for $59.
Melin Hats Odyssey Brick Hydro Review
Fan of the trucker style cap? Melin has you covered with the unisex Melin Hats Odyssey Brick Hydro. It has a split style where the seam only comes partially down to leave space on the forehead panel for a logo.
In terms of looks, this cap comes with the Melin Hats logo. The brim has a slight curve and has all the same features as the others in the Hydro line.
Say “10-4 good buddy” to this durable and stylish cap for $59.
Who Is Melin Hats For?
While writing this Melin Hats review, I’ve determined that these caps are for anyone who spends time in hats, whether for work, play, or just lounging. Many of their hats are unisex, but don’t let that stop you if you find a cap you like.
With different styles for the variety of head-types in the world and many properties for alternate needs, there is definitely something for everyone.
People who are outdoors often can make use of these hats, regardless of what they are doing. With both thermal and hydro elements, you are covered in cold and hot weather, in the water or not.
Oh, and for surfers, this is a must to protect from the sun and to keep you from losing the cap to a gnarly wave.
Melin Hats Reviews: What Do Customers Think?
Okay, so now for the fun part of this Melin Hats review, what do customers really think? Let’s start with the ratings of the awesome caps that I looked at in this article:
- Melin A Game Hydro – 1,890 reviews – 4.6/5 stars
- Melin Trenches Icon Hydro – 1,111 reviews – 4.7/5 stars
- Melin Odyssey Brick Hydro – 284 reviews – 4.8/5 stars
As you can see, they’ve all received stellar scores, with almost everyone being bowled over by how well these hats fit.
No matter the shape or size of your head, you probably suffer from the ring-shaped indent left by caps, most noticeable across the forehead, unless you are bald. Then it’s around your whole head. At times it just looks bad, and other times it’s just plain painful.
This Melin Hats review from a customer on their website went from acceptance to excitement as they found a hat to fit their head. They go on to explain:
“FINALLY A HAT FOR MY GIANT HEAD I have a giant, slightly odd-shaped head. I’ve accepted this fact and am ok with it. The issue has always been hats. I can never find one that sits properly and looks good. This was the first hat that did that. With the wide varieties in colors, I’ll be sure to buy another.”
Melin Hats are one of the most expensive you can buy, but they offer so much more than any other caps. With innovative design features, high durability, and a fashionable look, these hats get you through just about every situation.
Moving on over to Facebook, the brand received a score of 4.4/5 stars from 106 reviews. Check out this choice Melin Hats review from the site:
“Best hats I’ve ever worn! Down to the quality of materials, innovation, and attention to every detail; you won’t be able to buy just one. I beat the crap out of these hats while fishing, diving, working, exercising, traveling, etc…. And they continue to look 100. Don’t be fooled by imitators either. You get what you pay for!”
Wow, they seem pretty impressed, but I wonder whether they know about the secret inside these caps. Every cap has a Besom pocket which allows you to carry small items like a house or car key. Awesome.
On top of the great water properties, these caps are moisture-wicking to keep you comfortable during whatever is making you work up a sweat. The Trenches Icon Hydro on Amazon has a score of 4.3/5 stars out of 532 reviews that put them to the test while working out and turned up satisfied.
As an aside, I think that the lack of funky smells that is mentioned by this customer is maybe its best feature:
“…decided to save some cash and try these Melins. I’ve had it couple weeks and it’s awesome! Keeps the sweat out of my face. No trace of smell yet either. No issue wearing it to the gym and even after! Planning on buying a thermal for every day when it’s cold. I’ll also buy the camo ones for next hunting season when it’s hot.”
Before wrapping up this section, I couldn’t help but share this headline from The Inertia’s Melin Hats review: “I’ve Been Trying to Destroy melin’s Floatable, Water-Repellent Hat (But Can’t).”
Is Melin Hats Worth It?
To conclude this Melin Hats review, this brand is absolutely, without a doubt, worth your money, whether you are on a budget or not. Spending an extra $30 is nothing when you know that these caps should last you a long time and keep looking almost brand new.
As I showed in the previous section, this durability has been tested by many literally beating up their caps. It’s safe to say that they’re made to last.
Besides the awesome durability, features like water-repelling and heat retention are great for those who spend time outdoors.
The breathability is good for all situations and the sweat control help keep your cap looking good and not smelling like a gym. Perhaps one of the best features is that they truly and comfortably fit all heads, no matter your preferences.
